advancing the common good and supporting positive change. This legacy of civic impact holds as true today as it did when the Center began welcoming events in 1988.
Keeping it green
SCC’s sustainability mission guides them to continually look for ways to be environmentally prudent in all facets of campus operations. Some results of these sustainable choices include three LEED-certified buildings, an impressive waste diversion rate of nearly 80%, and being named a 2025 Environmental and Sustainability Award winner in Operational Excellence by the Puget Sound Business Journal.
Expanding public art
The Center’s public art program enhances the campus for attendees and neighbors passing through. The Arch building collection consists of long-term works and rotating art exhibits featuring local and regional artists, creating an opportunity for emerging and diverse art groups. The Summit building collection draws inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s diverse cultures and extends outdoors; almost 20 works can be seen and experienced as you walk around the exterior. The entire art collection can be viewed on their website.

Investing in infrastructure
In planning the construction of the Summit building, SCC continued a decades-long legacy of providing more for the community than just a space to gather. As part of the land purchase and permitting agreement, the Center provided a $93M investment in local infrastructure, including funding for affordable housing, bike lanes, and Freeway Park.
Supporting the community through donations
Facilitating the donation of surplus items from events is a longstanding community outreach activity for the Center. If a client determines they will have surplus bags, T-shirts, pens, or other useful items, SCC finds a local nonprofit that can use them.
Sourcing locally
The Center’s inhouse kitchens source local, sustainable food and beverage items to reduce its carbon footprint. In-season fruits and vegetables come from regional growers, and more than 98% of the wines served are from Washington’s award-winning wineries. When viable, surplus food is donated to local food kitchens. The downtown location, flexible meeting space, and excellent service aren’t the only reasons to plan your next event at the Seattle Convention Center.
